“A man will never love you or treat you as well as a store. If a man doesn’t fit, you can’t exchange him seven days later for a gorgeous cashmere sweater. And a store always smells good. A store can awaken a lust for things you never even knew you needed. And when your fingers first grasp those shiny, new bags…” — Rebecca Bloomwood in Confessions of a Shopaholic.
There’s a point when Rebecca has an epiphany and she can’t imagine why she never thought of it before – the world of luggage.
That pretty much sums up the way I feel about travel bags. There’s just something about a beautiful piece of luggage that travels the world with you.
Tumi Vietnam unveiled their Fall 2013 Collection today at the Vincom A store which takes a page from 1960’s vintage travel. Known for superb craftsmanship and materials, the collection moves away from utilitarian / business-y and into the whimsy with The Voyageur collection, a deco-inspired floral print in navy, red and brown.
The Tumi Villa collection of coated canvas with leather details comes in head-turning shades like tangerine and cobalt blue. More my style is the more conservative indigo blue, Earl Grey and this season’s color, Baltic blue.
Models were on hand, as if any additional “chic-ness” was needed.
My covet item is the retro toffee striped cases, a unisex muted palate that can go anywhere.
Seeing how packed the store was, it’s clear that Tumi has rolled out a winning combination of bold new colors along with time-tested travel gear for the discerning traveler.
Tumi is available at Vincom A (171 Dong Khoi, Level 2) and at a smaller store in the Rex Arcade just opposite.
