Ascott organises Earth Day activites

CapitaLand and its wholly owned serviced residence unit, The Ascott Limited (Ascott), organized multiple activities on Earth Day (Saturday, 19 March 2016) throughout Vietnam. In the morning, a cycling day was organized for 150 staff and residents in Ho Chi Minh City. At the same time, in Hanoi, more than 70 people consisting of Ascott staff, residents and Link Club members played their part by planting 50 trees at “Ba Vi National Park”. In Hai Phong City, over 20 associates and residents worked together to clean up Don Son Beach.

Every property in Vietnam also created GREEN corner made of recycled materials to raise awareness of environmental protection. Uniquely in Hanoi, a GREEN tree made of recycled bottles was erected in each of the 3 properties.

And in the evening, all 7 properties in Vietnam across 3 cities – Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh and Hai Phong joined the world to turn off lights for 1 hour. They also organized their own GREEN party to celebrate Earth Hour with the residents.

CapitaLand also targeted 23% reduction in carbon intensity before 2020 (using 2008 as base year). Thus being well on track as it has reduced its carbon intensity across its operations by 21% since 2008.

CapitaLand and Ascott have always been active in CSR events around Vietnam. Early 2016, Ascott launched a Computer Lab to improve the educational opportunities for about 400 children at Yen Loc A Primary School in Y Yen, Nam Dinh City. General cleaning, furniture vanishing and provision of school supplies were also done. In the South, they embarked in the charity trip to Can Gio District (75km from Ho Chi Minh City) to spread the festive cheer to 85 children at Thanh Tam Orphanage Home.

Ms Lew Yen Ping, Ascott’s Deputy Country General Manager stated that these activities truly exhibits Ascott’s Core Value of Community. She also encouraged each and every staff to play an active role in CSR activities. Since it is the Company’s credo to be a responsible corporate citizen and give back to the community.
