Entertainment for Tourists in Japan During the 2021 Quarantine

Japan is an incredibly diverse country that offers tons of activities for people of all ages. But now more than ever, tourists are feeling a tad more prepared if they do some research to get an idea of the things they can do here, amid the pandemic restrictions.

In this article, Takito Akagi takes us through a list of the most interesting entertainment options for tourists looking to visit Japan in 2021.

Gambling

Gambling is illegal in Japan, but the government recently lifted the ban on the casino industry to boost tourist activity. Soon, Japan will have its first integrated resort – a hotel with casinos – so that the tourists can take a bunch of exciting memories and rewards home with them.

What could be better entertainment for tourists in Japan than this?

Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is located on the Pacific coast of central Honshu. At 3,776.24 m (14,974 ft), it is the tallest mountain in the region and the second-highest volcano in Asia. The locals revere Mount Fuji as a sacred place and it is one of the most perfect natural sites in the world.

The trails for Mt. Fuji is officially open from July 1 to September 10, 2021. So, if you are a nature enthusiast, you can visit Mt. Fuji for some fresh air amid the pandemic.

Note: Mount Fuji is not for the faint of heart. It is an active volcano, and your visit might lead to some unforgiving altitude sickness.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

The sheer magnitude of those that perished during the atomic bombing is unthinkable. However, it is felt even more in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.

While the actual site of the blast is incredibly visceral and difficult to grasp, one can’t help but be humbled by the smaller tributes that dot the park and document individual stories.

The Park is now open for tourists, but the timings are still being adjusted to the new normal. So, it is best to check Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park’s official website when planning your visit.

Harry Potter World at Universal Studios

Japan has the second Harry Potter-themed Park to be built at Universal Studios, after the original The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando in Florida. You can enjoy the rides, find the perfect wand at Ollivanders, gawk at the Hogwarts Express, and watch the delightful street shows.

And while you are there during the 2021 quarantine, don’t forget to try one of Universal Studios Japan’s deliciously awesome butterbeer concoctions before you call it a day.

Japanese Alps

The Japanese Alps are truly divine, and as the name implies, they rise above even the most beautiful of Japan’s many mountains.

The scenery is beautiful, the hikes are nice and even the most basic hikes still offer awesome views. There is also plenty of accommodation in the area so you can choose to make a long weekend or longer trip out of it.

The Japanese Alps are also home to the island country’s most beautiful Buddhist temple as well as some precious raw materials, meat, and minerals.

teamLab Borderless Digital Art Museum

This museum is exactly what its name suggests, a borderless digital art museum. The exhibition consists of many art pieces that can only be seen online, however was constructed to be physically experienced.

It is one of the best digital exhibitions of its kind in the world and features approximately 60 digital art pieces spread across 10,000m² all under one roof. So, it isn’t unusual to end up staying here for hours because there is so much to experience.

Conclusion

It is extremely important for tourists in Japan during the 2021 quarantine to take safety precautions when traveling. The pandemic has made things uncertain, so remember that no plans can be rock solid at this time. But having a concrete itinerary will help you prepare for your safety in advance.
