Inspired by Vietnamese and Cambodian culture, Mekong Creations features beautifully handcrafted items by locals in the Mekong region. The ethos behind the company is to “support community development in poor remote villages.”
““It is also a Vietnamese enterprise with the highest quality standards and designs for modern tastes. All products are handmade for higher quality and with a very special touch.” Many are made also of natural, local materials, says Bernard Kervyn, Mekong Plus Regional Director. All profits go back to the same people and villages that create and build the products showcased by Mekong Creations.
Aside from their best selling quilts, the shop offers an array of products that allows indigenous materials to shine together with creative designs. Sarah Thomas, one of Mekong Creations’ designers, has created products – magazine holders, handbags, and chairs – made from the abundance of water hyacinth, which grow like weeds, available in the Mekong Delta. “Mekong Creations’ design principle is to be natural and sustainable as well as fun and modern. We strive towards sustainable practices and innovation,” Sarah shares.
Another material they’ve made good use of is bamboo. Popular among customers, their handmade bamboo bikes use this form of grass harvested from the forests of Tanh Linh in Binh Thuan Province. They have seven models to choose from: kids to adult bikes, from city to
mountain bikes.
With the Christmas season fast approaching, shoppers would be happy to know that Mekong Creations is bringing out their Christmas collection like bamboo Christmas trees, quilted stockings, and ornaments.
