International School Ho Chi Minh City (ISHCMC) has cause to celebrate once again after the Class of 2017 continues to set new records with their International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB DP) results. This is the 17th cohort of IB DP students to graduate from ISHCMC.
The Class of 2017 have completed their IB DP studies and excelled in their examinations achieving a tremendous 98% pass rate in an inclusive environment where all students study the IB. Topping the excellent work of this class, was the Valedictorian Yeji, scoring a perfect score of 45 out of 45. Only 218 other students around the world achieved this top score from the 159,400 students who sat the IB DP examination globally. Yeji joined the ISHCMC community in Grade 8 in 2012.
In addition to these resounding results, the students scored well above the world average and furthermore 60% of ISHCMC’s Class of 2017 received the prestigious IB Bilingual Diploma, upholding the school’s reputation as a truly international school with over 50 nationalities represented schoolwide and 15 nationalities in the Class of 2017. This 60% is more than double the 29% of bilingual diplomas achieved by all IB DP students globally.
Forty-one of the 50 students of the Class of 2017 studied at ISHCMC since their International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP). This curriculum is regarded as the best transition curriculum to develop the skills sets needed to succeed in the IB DP. Fourteen have been at ISHCMC since their International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).
“ISHCMC is able to ensure all students are engaged in their learning and empowered to be the best that they can be while focusing on areas that they are passionate about. These IB DP examination results show the commitment to individual student growth at ISHCMC where all students study the favored curriculum among universities worldwide in Grades 11 and 12. The Class of 2017 should feel very proud as should the ISHCMC community that have supported this cohort of students,” says Adrian Watts, Head of School at ISHCMC.
“Modern education research proves that traditional education models of memorizing information are no longer sufficient and that skillsets needed for the future include critical thinking, communication and research skills. The breadth of the IB progammes and development of inquiry and critical thinking skills at ISHCMC will equip this graduating class for their university years and beyond,” says Paul Gordon, College and University Counselor at ISHCMC.
In addition, we congratulate the Class of 2017 for their acceptances to top universities all over the world including Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
