Two free community events in Hanoi and Hoi An to anticipate International Recycling Day will allow participants to join volunteer clean-up projects; there will also be a networking and ideas event in Ho Chi Minh City on 12 May for activists seeking to set up their own recycling or environmental projects. All welcome

Clean-up

Khiri Travel is organising three events in Vietnam on 12 May ahead of International Recycling Day (17 May), established by UNESCO. The activity is also in honour of Khiri Travel’s 25th anniversary. The public are welcome to join the activities in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Hoi An.

Ms Gili Back, the Khiri Travel Sustainability Manager and Executive Director of Khiri Reach, says: “On May 17th every year, International Recycling Day is celebrated, although it is something that we should participate in every day. How? By being consistent, treating waste effectively, protecting the environment and fighting climate change.”

In order to help achieve this, Khiri Travel will be hosting special events, educational seminars and clean ups in seven countries across Asia. The three in Vietnam are:

Clean Up Hanoi

Clean-up Hanoi

  • Date: 12 May 2018

Introduction

Celebrate International Recycling Day by joining the Clean Up in Hanoi and help the Phuc Tan Community together with Blue Dragon, a children’s foundation that helps street kids, kids with disabilities and rescues kids from slavery and human trafficking across Vietnam. Learn about recycling and other ways to reduce your negative impact on the planet. It doesn’t matter if you are young or old, we can all work together to Keep Vietnam Beautiful and ensure a bright future for our children.

At the clean up location each participant will be provided with the cleaning kit that includes a pair of gloves, tongs and trash bags. This event will be the start of a series of clean up in Hanoi and will be organized a few times a year.

Included

  • clean up kits (gloves, tongs, trash bags)
  • snacks and water

For individuals

Participation is FOC but availability is limited. Please RSVP to ngoc.do@khiri.com if you wish to participate. Voluntary donations are appreciated. In case they raise more money than needed to cover event expenses, it will be used to fund the future clean ups.

Clean Up Hoi An

Clean-up Hoi An

  • Date: 12 May 2018
  • Time: 8 am until noon.
  • Starting point: Grasshopper Adventures Shop – 621 Hai Ba Trung (20 m up the alleyway)

Introduction

Celebrate International Recycling Day by joining the clean up in Hoi An and taking care of the beautiful Cam Kim island, some parts of which could have been so much better if they were free of garbage. We believe that by uniting local businesses we can make this green and peaceful area of Central Vietnam even more picturesque.

We will get together at Grasshopper Adventures shop at 8 am where we will get on the bikes and start a short cycling tour. We will pass the old town and cycle through the fields and local villages – a few thrilling picture stops guaranteed!

At the clean up location each participant will be provided with the cleaning kit that includes a pair of gloves, tongs and trash bags. When we are done with cleaning, we will head to a local café for snacks and refreshments. After that we will cycle to the pier and take a boat back to the old town.

This event will be a start of the clean up series of Cam Kim island and will be organized a few times a year.

Included:

  • clean up kits (gloves, tongs, trash bags)
  • countryside cycling tour

In the afternoon there will an interactive, engaging, fun group of activities presented by the speaking groups from the morning. We will have around a dozen activities aimed at all people where they will not only have fun, but also learn more about what actions they can take to have a positive impact on their communities.

The event will be presented in English so please bear this in mind, however, the afternoon event will be suitable for everyone as it will be more interactive, where language should be no barrier.
