‘Fragments Of Rediscovered Time’ showcases the present day world of Sapa through the lens of a Kodak Duaflex II vintage camera from the early 1950’s, with Mads Monsen’s keen eye to detail and composition portraying a visual documentation of Sapa in a striking and unique way not shown before. ‘Fragments of Rediscovered Time’, is born from the concept of raising awareness about sustainability through Reuse. It is also intended to explore and capture the essence of the past of the Sapa culture, people, their environment and how sustainability applies in the modern day with the advancement in infrastructure and technology surrounding them. ‘Fragments of Rediscovered Time’ showcases 18 prints on sheet metal, with old metal, hand-welded into custom art frames with a protective finish.
Born in Norway, Mads Monsen underwent an apprenticeship with a commercial photography studio in Bergen, Norway. He graduated from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design with a BA (hons) in Graphic Design. MadsMonsen has lived and worked in Vietnam since the year 2000, where he runs Studio MadsMonsen, an editorial and commercial photography studio that allows him to explore and photograph a lot of the country. Also, he is co-founder of Cty Oanh & Mads, provider of custom artwork and corporate gifts, where one of the specialties is traditional lacquerware fused with modern print technology.
‘Fragments Of Rediscovered Time’ will be on view from August 17 – September 17, 2017.
The exhibition is organized by L’Usine Dong Khoi (151/5 Dong Khoi, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam), in their ongoing support for the local arts community and showcasing artists. Support comes from Saigon Scooter Centre for creating the frames and image sheets.
