A unique forum for sharing ideas and thinking outside the norms will be held in Ho Chi Minh City later this month.
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to spreading ideas. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from the worlds of Technology, Entertainment and Design. Since then it has become a global community, covering topics from business to science in more than 100 languages. In the TED spirit of “Ideas worth spreading”, TEDx was started in order for independent organizers to set up a local event that brings people together to share a TED-like experience.
On June 22, an event will be held in Vietnam, titled TEDxYouth@DienBienPhuSt 2014: The Transparency. Organized by the Business English Club of the Foreign Trade University, attendance is strictly limited to 150 participants.
A clip contest will be organized before TEDx officially takes place, with the most suitable and interesting ones chosen for BMG scholarships and a 5-minute talk on stage. Those selected will have the chance to express their ideas in front of many people.
Interested participants must register prior to June 18 online at bit.ly/tedx2014. They have to complete a formal application round which tests their knowledge about TEDx, English skills and above all, their desire to be a participant.
The theme of the event - Transparency - is explained by the organisers, thus: “We depend so much on what we can see that sometimes we skip the invisible but precious things that this life tries to remind us. There are forces inside and around us, which may silently, yet strongly, raise us up and give us the strength to be more than what we can be. Here, we shall call them “The Transparency”.”
Guest speakers include Brett Blumenthal, CEO, founder at BB Commemorative LLC, David Tran, cofounder & COO of nhommua.com, Maggie Appleton, freelance illustrator and web designer and Dr Tran Ngoc Huu, former director of the Pasteur Institute of Ho Chi Minh City.
Venue: Au Co Palace, 584 Au Co, Ward 10, Tan Binh District, HCMC. Registration fee: 110.000 VND ($5).
